No Man's Sky

So… I had all sorts of games to choose from to play last night, and I went back to NMS. The new stuff in it is just plain good and it’s a really relaxing way to unwind after a tumultuous day.

After completing a bunch of quests from my new crew, I delved into the base building a bit. I relocated to a new planet where it rains. NON. STOP. But it’s pretty and has cool wildlife and is located in a pretty diverse solar system, so I figured it would do for now.

Here’s what I accomplished.
You can see my freighter in the sky, barely. It’s more visible when it’s not raining so heavily.
After looking at this some more, I’m going to start over. I have a few different things I’d like to try at the top including lining the two circular bases up a bit better. And I hadn’t figured out how to use the color palette at this point either.

I’m hoping to do something like this eventually:

Or this:

Or this:

Basically, this has become my new Minecraft after this update. I’m addicted to building.

Thought Smurf might enjoy this if no one else…

I did enjoy that. Although, I have no idea how he was flying through a cave… a PC mod, maybe?

Most likely. I believe the most popular mod for it is one that drastically changes how the games handles “autopilot”.

This week Hello Games will be releasing the next content update for No Man’s Sky. We’re calling it the Path Finder Update; it introduces a new vehicle that will aid home planet exploration, building on the Foundation Update to hint at a path ahead for the future.

  • Hello Games sent packages to 16 people (seemingly all Reddit mods?)
  • The packages contain a NMS shirt, pin, socks, signed poster with a “hope you like what’s next” message and a written message that says “dreaming of far-flung worlds”
  • Most interesting, that each package contains a audio cassette tape, marked with 1/16, 2/16, etc etc. meaning each tape may have separate content on them.
  • Not all tapes have been received yet, and nobody owns a goddamn cassette player lol.
  • the tapes are slowly being uploaded once each recipient can figure out how. The link above contains the files to listen to.

New content? XBO version? Who knows… but this is kinda cool marketing.

Impulse buying! $23.99 and Smurf’s comments. I’m bored today, so let’s give this a shot.

Well that’s kinda fun. Put in about 3 hours and kinda following the “main story”. Almost gave up at first because I was about to die from wandering off too far, found a cave… and then that actually ended up killing me anyway. Now I can fly and am getting the hang of it. Not bad at all. I think my main obsession will be learning the language.

They are doing something cool. Not sure what yet, but there are emails with puzzles and codes and a community working together. So far, we’ve unlocked this:

The piece I unlocked is the highlighted purple piece that contains absolutely no info.

And one of the decoded messages confirms a new, 4th race:

This is a really interesting way to get the community back into the game and will hopefully lead to some HUGE update next month on the year 1 anniversary.

I initially signed up here in case you are curious:

Yeah, their ARG sounds more fun than the game itself, but I have been impressed with their updates so far, just not enough to actually do much more than download them unfortunately. Hopefully this will be different.

Geez. They are going all out on this ARG thingee. They sent out a new code this weekend, which led to a time, date and location where people showed up and were led to a an Escape Room with a locked briefcase. Once opened, it revealed a new piece to the puzzle.

Here’s the part I unlocked:

Here’s the full stream:

This update needs to be huge for this amount of work leading up to it. If not… shame on you, Hello Games for fooling everyone again.

Yeah, no way all this work leads to something worthwhile.

They had a new ARG event this weekend—that I completely missed again—and new things were discovered.

So far confirmed:

This week! I can’t wait to see those patch notes.

Now I have to decide how to spend my gaming time…

No Man’s Sky: Atlas Rises
Mass Effect: Andromeda
Marvel Heroes: Omega
Micro Machines World Series
Surgeon Simulator

Also, someone on NeoGAF just told me how to get more ships. I had no idea.

And here I just started Mass Effect Andromeda…

16 player Co-Op:

Glitches in the simulation have begun to appear.
Visualised by strange floating orbs, up to 16 players can see and communicate with one another, and explore the universe together.
While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky.
While interaction is very limited, VOIP (Voice over IP) allows proximity based voice chat with other nearby explorers.
Use portals to quickly travel to more populated planets, or to meet up with friends.

Low altitude fly and combat.

Does this game live up to the initial hype now?
